Joomla 1.6 and her discussions
Lot's has been said about the new Joomla 1.6. Useuly i just read a lot to keep me informed about all that happens around Joomla. But sinds this week I decided to start writing down my toughts about all that happens on the internet and Joomla. So everything you read here is my personal opinion. I'll try to not offend anybody or anything, but as English is not my native language I might not pick all the right words for every occasion.
But now back on topic.
Joomla 1.6 RC is out now, and never have I heard so manny discussion about: should I, or not. And why is that. Is this new version not much better then the 1.5?
Developing for such a long time, and where do we get now.
People leaving the core, why? Is the "Open Source" mind still in it's right place? If you are not sattisfied on the Joomla 1.6 release, don't release it!
What do we want in the new Joomla?
A good ACL, but instead of collaborating with people who developed some good ACL for Joomla 1.5, the core is gonna try and make it them selfs again. And is it good? Sorry but I don't find this ACL very handy.
How did Joomla 1.5 get so good?
Did you see the JED? all those extensions made Joomla what it is today, and the same with all the template developers, they make Joomla look good.
And then an update without legacy!
Thanks to the third party developers we all want to use Joomla, but they are not "Third Part Developers" they are "Contributors" to this Great Open Source Project.
And not thinking about them, is not so good for the project.
collaborating
If there is a new and very good framework, why not use it for a new Joomla update? I have never seen such a flexible framework like Nooku Framework. And what is the great part about this framework? One of the developers is the co-founder of Joomla! But no, just stick to the grid.
What do i miss here? The Open Source Mind!
Maybe Molajo has that in mind, or Nooku!
It's to bad things are going this way, i'm not angry, just a bid dissapointed.
Am I gonna upgrade to Joomla 1.6? I don't think so.
There are a lot of people working hard to make the web look good with Joomla, and all I see are Questionmarks with the New Joomla 1.6.
I was trying to contribute to the joomla project, but that contact was leaving the core at the time I was ready to start the Joomla 1.6 BugSquad. Now I will just keep it national, and share my experiance with the Dutch Joomla User Groups, that's where I feel the mind is Open Source.
